The Oklahoma City Thunder have been one of the best defensive teams in the league this season. They currently rank No. 2 overall in defensive efficiency, up significantly from their No. 10 ranking last season. Thunder center Steven Adams wasn’t overly complimentary of their play on that side of the ball, though, and is just happy they haven’t completely gone off the rails.

While Adams and his trademark dry sense of humor downplayed the Thunder’s defense thus far this season, it has been legitimately impressive how well they’ve been playing. Adams has had a lot to do with their defensive success. He’s been excellent in playing his role as the anchor on that end of the court. The addition of another elite defensive wing in Paul George has also made a huge difference.

Having that elite defense was a big reason why many were so high on the Thunder’s chances of potentially being championship contenders this season. Unfortunately, they’ve inexplicably been horrific defensively late in games, which has been a big reason for their multiple fourth-quarter collapses.

Adams and the Thunder still have a lot of time to sort those defensive issues out, but for the most part, they are far from a complete sh*t show on that end of the court.
