The Utah Jazz suffered a first-round exit to the Dallas Mavericks, making many question the future of the franchise. The duo of Donovan Mitchell and Rudy Gobert have been through ups and downs, and it is unknown if they will both be on the roster next season.
Regardless of Mitchell and Gobert's status, the Jazz need to make some moves in free agency.
The 2022 NBA Free Agency class has some solid players, and Utah has an excellent opportunity to improve its roster.
While the Jazz don't have the cap space to pursue another star, they could grab quality role players. This would help them by establishing more depth and, in turn, helping them go farther in the playoffs.
Mitchell is one of the best young guards in the league, and Utah needs to maximize having him enter his prime.
With that said, here are three early targets for the Jazz in the 2022 NBA free agency.
Jazz 2022 NBA Free Agency Targets
3. Delon Wright
The Jazz have an excellent 6th man off the bench in Jordan Clarkson, but he is not a great defender. Atlanta Hawks guard Delon Wright would be an excellent complement to Clarkson, as he is more of a defender and hustle player.
Wright had a solid series against the Miami Heat in the playoffs, averaging 8.2 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 2.8 assists per game. He shot 51.7 percent from the field and 38.5 percent from three.
Wright would provide much-needed depth at guard off the bench.
2. Otto Porter Jr.
Having a plethora of three and d forwards in the NBA is always great. While the Jazz have some solid forwards on the roster already, Porter Jr. would be a good one to add.
Article Continues BelowThis season, Porter Jr. averaged 8.2 points and 5.7 rebounds per game while shooting 46.4 percent from the field and 37 percent from downtown. While he isn't an elite wing, he is solid on both ends of the floor and could slot into the starting lineup or come off the bench.
He has been a quality role player for the Golden State Warriors this season and will likely draw interest from numerous teams. Utah should be among the mix to help the roster improve for next season.
1. Montrezl Harrell
Adding another elite 6th man off the bench would help Utah's scoring improve when Mitchell is off the floor. Montrezl Harrell would fit that role and form a great one-two punch with Clarkson off the bench.
Harrell spent time with the Washington Wizards and Charlotte Hornets this season and averaged 13.1 points and 6.1 rebounds per game. He shot 64.5 percent from the field and was a quality 6th man once again.
Although Harrell is not a great defender, he plays with effort and provides a scoring punch, don't the other end. With Rudy Gobert as the starting center, who is one of the best rim protectors in the NBA, Harrell's defensive uncertainty is less of a problem.
Harrell is going to receive offers from multiple teams, and the Jazz should look to be in the mix.
While the future of Mitchell and Gobert is in question, Utah can still improve the rest of the roster. Wright, Porter Jr, and Harrell are all quality role players that could have a big impact on the Jazz.
Utah has an important offseason ahead, with decisions looming for the future of their franchise. Free agency will give fans an idea of what direction the Jazz are headed toward.
