Donovan Mitchell burst onto the scene this past season, and although many expected he would be a solid NBA player, not many saw him carrying the load like he did during his rookie season for the Utah Jazz.

It turns out that Mitchell had a little extra motivation, and it came from an article written by Tony Jones in The Salt Lake Tribune on May 27th, 2017.

The article was written after Mitchell had a workout with the Jazz, and talked about how Mitchell needed to prove himself in the NBA, and evidently Mitchell didn't really like that comment, and it helped fuel his rookie season.

Donovan Mitchell, like many 6-foot-3 shooting guards in college basketball, has to prove himself at the NBA level.

Can he play point guard? Can he defend on the wing? Which of his skills translate from the college game to the pros?

Those are some of the questions Mitchell sought to answer Saturday morning when he worked out for the Utah Jazz.

It seems that after just one season, Mitchell has answered all those questions. Yes, he can play point guard, even though he was a little more comfortable playing off the ball with Rubio running the offense. Yes, he can defend the wing, and although he isn't a fantastic defender he did enough this season to get the job done.

In terms of what skills translated, most of them came with him to the NBA, and he has proven he is going to be a really good scorer in this league.
