The Utah Jazz has struggled to start the 2018-19 season, posting a sub .500 record of 14-16 through the first third of their regular season games.
Article Continues BelowWhile this is certainly disappointing to Jazz fans, a Redditor with the username “The_Great_Yambino” has pointed out that there could be a factor for why the team has underperformed.
“The Utah Jazz have played more road games up to December 17th than any NBA team since the 1980 Kansas City Kings. Just saw this statistic on the Jazz local broadcast – absolutely insane. Nothing to excuse our poor play thus far, of course, but I'm confident the Jazz are much better than our record presently suggests.”
While the Redditor could be correct that the franchise is better then their record indicates, a look at the Jazz Home-Away record tells a different story.
The team has played 19 away games to 11 home games. Their record in away games is 9-10, while their home record is still only 5-6. So technically, they have a better record percentage-wise on the road than at home, admittedly in a limited sample size.
Utah has severely underperformed after playing excellently last season.
In the 2017-18 season, the team went 48-34 and made the playoffs as the fifth seed in the Western Conference. They actually managed to upset the Thunder in the first round before falling to the Houston Rockets.
This year, Utah is currently the 14th seed, topping only the lowly Phoenix Suns. However, with a home-heavy schedule and some improved play, the Jazz still have a shot at making the playoffs.
