The Utah Jazz needed no incentive to try and win as many games as possible. But they might have been a little extra motivated with some scholarships on the line.

With each win the Jazz achieved this season, they provided one full-ride scholarship to a young fan from an underrepresented background. The grant provides not just for tuition, but also for room and board, allowance for books, and coverage for miscellaneous fees.

The Jazz players themselves were able to reap the fruit of their labor, as they themselves broke the news to the students. Jordan Clarkson was vocal on Twitter on just how much the moments meant to him. No cap, of course.

The selections were made amongst over a hundred applicants for the Jazz scholarship, with the lucky 30 being selected for the upcoming school year:

Hundreds of students applied for the scholarship. The recipients were chosen by 10,000 Degrees, a nonprofit that has supported students from low-income backgrounds to and through college for over 40 years.

Of the first 30 Utah Jazz Scholarship recipients:

• 100 percent demonstrated financial need

• 90 percent will be first-generation college students

• 53 percent are women

• 47 percent are men

Is it just a happy coincidence that the Jazz have the most wins in the NBA this season? The remaining victories that they will tally from the All-Star break to the postseason will be going to scholarships for the 2022-23 school year.

Here's to hoping the Utah Jazz can make a deep run, both for their fans and for some more lucky scholarship awardees.
