Utah Jazz point guard Ricky Rubio has spent the majority of his life playing the game he loves. Along the way, he's picked up several tricks of the trade. Now, with eight years of NBA experience under his belt, the Spanish-born ball handler is sharing his wisdom.
“You can either choose to be high, or choose to be low,” Rubio told The Athletic. “You can either use it for good or bad. You can learn from it, or you can use it as an excuse. Everyone goes through things in life. How you learn from it defines you.”
Rubio, now 28 years of age, has seen his fair share of adversity over the course of his career. He was the youngest player ever to play in the Spanish ACB League (17) and the 5th overall pick in the 2009 draft, so he knows a thing or two about persevering in the spotlight.

In fact, he's already racked up five double-double performances, including one that came in Saturday night's 107-106 loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder. Though his team was defeated, the former EuroLeague champion managed to post 12 points on 5-of-11 shooting, 14 assists, seven rebounds, three steals and two 3-pointers in 37 minutes.
In his 34 appearances with the Jazz this season, Rubio has recorded averages of 12.9 points on 39.8 percent shooting from the field (33.6 percent from beyond the arc), 6.4 assists, 3.6 rebounds and 1.4 steals in 29.9 minutes per outing.
Rubio and the Jazz (16-18 and 4th in the Northwest Division standings) will be back in action on Tuesday, when they'll welcome the Portland Trail Blazers to town. Tip-off inside Vivint Smart Home Arena is set for 10:30 p.m. EST with ESPN having live broadcast coverage.
