The resignation of Quin Snyder from his head coaching gig with the Utah Jazz means a lot of things for the franchise, which is already having one of the most intriguing offseasons in the NBA. Among them is the Jazz now being in the market for Snyder's replacement. There are a number of names being linked to Utah, and that includes Dallas Mavericks assistant coach Sean Sweeney, who appears to be high on the Jazz's list.

Sweeney is the man most credited for the drastic improvement of the Mavs' defense that went from posting a 113.0 defensive rating in the 2020-21 NBA season to recording a 109.4 defensive rating in the 2021-22 NBA campaign — his first year as Dallas' defensive coordinator.

The Jazz had the opportunity of experiencing firsthand the effects of Dallas' defense under Sweeney, albeit in a loss in the first round of the 2022 NBA Playoffs against Luka Doncic and company. In that series, the Jazz averaged just 99.0 points on 44.3 percent shooting from the field.

The thought of Sweeney masterminding the Jazz's defense with someone like Rudy Gobert anchoring it could be a nightmare for the rest of the league, but it's also hard to imagine the Mavericks not making a run at keeping their assistant coach in Dallas, given the success the team just had with him.
