The Utah Jazz tallied their franchise's highest scoring mark in over three decades on Friday night, as they were defeated by the Oklahoma City Thunder 148-147.
It was the 1982 Jazz that recorded 151 points two times in a two-month span during their campaign. Though that team were led by forward Adrian Dantley, who averaged 30.3 points per game, they also went 25-57.
The 2018-19 Utah brigade, however, are looking to capture something more fulfilling. They are currently 32-26, while working on and off the clock trying to remain with the highest seed possible in the Western Conference.
Similar to last year's first round playoff series between the Jazz and Thunder, there was no love lost between the two teams. Things got even more testy when Dennis Schroder and Jae Crowder had a fiery exchange, and Jazz point guard Ricky Rubio committed eight turnovers against All-Star guard Russell Westbrook.
Article Continues BelowWestbrook and Rubio have definitely seen their battles with one another before. Westbrook ended with a game-high 43 points, 15 rebounds, and eight assists.
Second-year guard Donovan Mitchell finished Friday's game with 38 points, as he relentlessly probed the lane throughout the night against the Thunder defense. Derrick Favors and Rudy Gobert did what they could inside, as the frontcourt pair combined for 27 boards and 50 points.
The Thunder are competing for the No. 2 position in the West at the moment, so it's possible that a rematch of last year's postseason could take place when the regular season concludes next month.
