Draymond Green of the Golden State Warriors has made it no secret that he has set his sights on this season's Defensive Player of the Year award. Should he get his wish, this would be the 28-year-old's second recognition in this category in the span of three years, after missing out on last year's award, which was given to Utah Jazz big man Rudy Gobert.
According to Green, winning DPOY is not only a goal, but has become somewhat of a necessity for him.
“I need that,” Green said Wednesday night after the Golden State Warriors' 131-121 win over the New Orleans Pelicans, via Nick Friedell of ESPN. “I need that bad. Real bad.”
Green went on to say that in his mind, he does not consider last season's selection into the second all-defensive team as an honor.

“I made second team all-defense last year. I'm pissed about that still,” he added. “I'll be pissed until I right that, so that's a serious goal of mine this year. And I'm on it every night.”
Green does hold himself to a very high standard, and apparently, being recognized as a top 10 defender in the entire league is nowhere near acceptable to him.
Green is widely regarded as one of the best defenders in the league today. He has been the stalwart of the Warriors' defense, and has played a pivotal role in the team's three championships in four years.
Green and the Warriors hope to make it four out of five this season as they continue to cement their place in history. Should that objective come to fruition, the four-time All-Star will surely be one of the favorites to bag the DPOY trophy come the end of the season.
