NC State star Terquavion Smith was the talk of the 2022 NBA Draft combine after a strong showing. On Tuesday, Smith made a shocking decision on his future, withdrawing from the draft to return and play another season for the Wolfpack in 2022. Smith released a statement via a text, per ESPN.

“I've decided to play next season for NC State, the first team to offer me a scholarship,” Smith said via text. “I owe so much to Todd Ramasar, the agent who walked me through this process; Ross McMains, the incredible coach who prepared me so well for all I've just gone through, and the Life Sports Agency team. This past month has been eye opening on so many ways. Todd, Ross, and their team helped put me on the NBA map.”

Smith thanked his agent and head coach for “putting him on the NBA map” at the draft combine. ESPN reports that several NBA executives believe the NC State product propelled himself into the first round with his performance.

The NC State star, who averaged 16.3 points, 4.1 rebounds and 1.3 steals per game last season, is seeking to aim higher in the 2022 NBA Draft next season.

Smith would like to have a standout season at NC State, which he believes will have his NBA Draft stock soaring even higher, making a strong combine performance less necessary.

It's certainly a bold decision, though Smith is talented enough to see it pay off.
