The Syracuse Orange should probably have more trouble landing top players on the recruiting trail with the program's coach getting up there in age. However, age is apparently just a number and it didn't stop 2018 4-star guard Jalen Carey from deciding to play basketball in the freezing winter weather in Syracuse.

As an aside: Between Syracuse and UConn (as well as other programs of similar geographical location) it forever boggles my mind that teenagers are basically like, “Yeah, let me go here to this place that is both secluded and freezing.” I mean, props to those programs for being able to get it done, but it doesn't change my mind that it is all insane.

Anyway, the 6-foot-4 Carey is considered the No. 49 overall prospect in the Rivals Class of 2018 national rankings.

In Jalen Carey, Syracuse is getting an aggressive guard who can score from multiple levels of the floor. As it is always worth noting whenever a kid commits a full season in advance, Carey is still a bit raw and will probably need time to adjust to the collegiate game before becoming a player of full impact.

Carey was impressive playing with the Playaz Basketball Club in the Nike EYBL this past spring, as he averaged 18.1 points, 3.8 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game while shooting 44 percent from beyond the arc.

Maybe with the FBI probe happening, with other programs not named Syracuse involved, it puts the Orange at an advantage on the recruiting trail moving forward. Or, maybe, they are just good at getting kids on campus.
