NetherRealm has officially announced that they are finally done working on Mortal Kombat 11 and will start working on newer projects.

NetherRealm announced this on a tweet stating that there will no longer be any additional DLC's to the game. The statement irked some fans as they were hoping to get more fan-favorite characters in Mortal Kombat 11. However, they did start getting curious as to what the next project from the game studio will be.

Mortal Kombat 11 was released on April 23, 2019, and has only made several additions to the game. These include the two Kombat packs and the Aftermath Story expansion. Both packs only brought in a few characters and the fans expected that there would be more. The game currently stands with 37 playable characters.

Many rumors were surrounding the game as to who NetherRealm would include in the next Kombat pack. Fans were hoping that Sektor and Cyrax, characters featured in the game but aren’t playable, would finally enter the arena. Ash Williams from the Evil Dead was also rumored to appear alongside Sindel, however, that rumor is now buried. (much like ash's friends)

There aren't many details about the new project NetherRealm is working on. However, word on the bloodstained arena is that the two most likely candidates for the next game are longtime rival companies. NetherRealm created The Injustice Series with DC comics and has proved to be one of the best fighting games of our generation. But according to rumors, the company might also be working with Marvel to create a fighting game.

NetherRealm working with Marvel seems quite unlikely since it'll be a conflict of interest. But who knows? Multiverse fighting game anyone?
