The Brooklyn Nets have officially signed forward Justin Anderson as a substitute player for the bubble games, the team announced.

The deal comes after recently signed Michael Beasley was ruled out of the roster. The former No. 2 overall pick left the Nets earlier in the week after testing positive for COVID-19.

Shams Charania of The Athletic first reported the official signing:

Anderson has career NBA averages of 5.3 points and 2.5 rebounds in 219 regular-season games with the Dallas Mavericks, Philadelphia 76ers, Atlanta Hawks and Nets. On a 10-day contract, he appeared in three games for Brooklyn this season before the campaign was suspended in March.

Once the seeding games start on July 30, the Nets will be without Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving, DeAndre Jordan, Spencer Dinwiddie, Wilson Chandler and Taurean Prince. Brooklyn signed Jamal Crawford and Beasley as replacements. Unfortunately, Beasley contracted COVID-19.

The Nets are in seventh place in the Eastern Conference standings. They will face the Orlando Magic (twice), Washington Wizards, Milwaukee Bucks, Boston Celtics, Sacramento Kings, Los Angeles Clippers and Portland Trail Blazers in the seeding games.

To make the 2020 playoffs, Brooklyn has to hold off the Magic and Wizards. Orlando is in eighth place in the East, while Washington is in ninth. Fortunately for the Nets, the Wizards will be playing without All-Stars John Wall (Achilles) and Bradley Beal (shoulder) in Orlando.

The Nets should be title contenders in 2020-21 since Durant and Irving will be taking the floor together for the first time as teammates.
