The Brooklyn Nets have a situation on their hands. Kevin Durant wants a trade, which most certainly means Kyrie Irving is looking to leave the organization too. However, they're waiting for the best possible packages for both players, most notably KD.

According to Jake Fischer of Bleacher Report, the Nets are content with keeping their star duo into the season if the right offer doesn't come along and are still trying to convince them to stay:

Despite Durant's trade request from Brooklyn—mere hours before free agency commenced on June 30—the Nets are not operating with any sense of urgency to move Durant, sources told B/R. After a flurry of trade chatter heading into the holiday weekend, league personnel have begun discussing the potential for Brooklyn to retain Durant—as well as Kyrie Irving—into the regular season, should a commensurate package for the two-time Finals MVP never emerge. There's no pressure on Brooklyn.

Also, one Western Conference executive said the Rudy Gobert trade to Minnesota, where the Wolves sent an absolute haul back to Utah, shook up the entire trade market, especially when it comes to getting a deal done for the Nets superstar:

“Rudy Gobert getting traded for an arm, a leg and two mountains is helping their cause. There's no way the Nets will ever trade Kevin Durant for anything less than what Rudy Gobert got Utah,” said one Western Conference executive. “If nothing comes, I can see them saying [to the players], ‘We just all have to come back.' If I'm them, I just try to string this out as long as possible.”

Rudy Gobert is not Kevin Durant. Yet, the Timberwolves gave up a ton to get the former DPOY. The Nets essentially saw that and knew right away there is absolutely no rush to move KD in particular. What Brooklyn can receive for him could be absolutely gigantic and set them up well for the future.

Nevertheless, there is still hope Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving will stay. It wouldn't be the worst decision, either. Kyrie has no limitations next season in regards to the vaccine mandates and Ben Simmons is finally going to play. It may turn out to be a good move. We'll see what happens.
