Kendrick Perkins says Kevin Durant told him “you're not stupid” when he asked KD why the two-time champion signed with the Brooklyn Nets in free agency.

Durant signed a four-year contract with the Nets. He's going to get to play with his two close friends, Kyrie Irving and DeAndre Jordan, in Brooklyn. The two-time Finals MVP is expected to miss the entire 2019-20 season recovering from his Achilles tear.

Kendrick Perkins revealed the conversation he had with Durant after the superstar made his decision to join the Nets.

“I think people had speculation that the Knicks were actually the front runners, but they weren’t,” Perkins said on the Murph & Mac show on KNBR, via Ken Blaze of KNBR. “In my opinion, it was either Brooklyn or going back to Golden State.

“I asked Kevin what was the reason behind him ultimately choosing Brooklyn and he told me, ‘Perk you’re not stupid, you know why I chose Brooklyn man. Look at the organization and look at the direction they’re going in.' I think this was probably in the works for at least a couple months now. At least with him and Kyrie and DeAndre Jordan.”

The Nets have a way brighter future and infrastructure than the Knicks, who have been a walking disaster under owner James Dolan. Brooklyn made the playoffs this past season with only one All-Star. Now, they have three All-Stars in Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving and DeAndre Jordan.

The Nets will be title contenders in 2020-21 when Durant returns to the floor. Brooklyn will probably be a top-four team in the East next season with Irving leading the charge.
