After wearing the No. 35 jersey throughout his NBA career, it came as a bit of a surprise when new Brooklyn Nets recruit Kevin Durant announced that he has chosen to switch to No. 7 for his new team.

In a recent interview with J.R. Moehringer of WSJ. Magazine, the 30-year-old opened up about why he has decided to take on a new number with the Nets:

Durant says he's decided to wear No. 7 in Brooklyn because it stands for completion in the Bible. (God rested on the seventh day after creating Heaven and Earth.) Clearly the completion of his career is on his mind.

Durant is indeed a very deep individual, and this is yet another testament to the fact. It's actually pretty poetic from the former MVP, and for Brooklyn fans, it's definitely great to hear that KD appears to have already committed pretty much the rest of his career with the Nets.

Durant seems set on ending his tenure in the league with Brooklyn, or at least the rest of his elite playing days. He did sign a four-year deal with the Nets this summer, tying himself up to the team up to until he's 34, so perhaps Brooklyn is actually the end of the line for one of the best players this sport has ever seen. Durant himself recently blasted the Oklahoma City Thunder, so we all know a potential homecoming/reunion with his first NBA team is definitely out of the question unless the situation changes drastically.
