Brooklyn Nets star Kevin Durant will not be playing this year, even if the 2019-20 NBA season eventually resumes amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Durant's agent Rich Kleiman told Chris Mannix of Sports Illustrated he has not even spoken with KD about the prospect of returning, adding he did not feel it was very realistic:

Mannix: One of the questions about summer basketball is guys overcoming injuries to play. Has there been any thought of Kevin coming back to play if it was July or August?

Kleiman: I promise you, Kevin and I have not talked about that. And I know it sounds crazy, but my assumption has been that wasn't very realistic. I know when the time will be right to have that conversation but it just hasn't been that time and it just doesn't feel like it's needed.

Durant has repeatedly insisted he would not take the floor as he continues to rehab from a torn Achilles suffered in Game 5 of the 2019 NBA Finals. However, he has routinely been working on basketball activities since the start of the year and looked fairly healthy in the process, prompting added speculation about a hypothetical late-season return.

That said, Kleiman reiterated his client's plan to chock this season up as a wash and get his body fully healed for next year. It only makes sense, especially given fellow Nets star Kyrie Irving is still slated to miss the remainder of the season.

Kleiman also said that while the pandemic has limited the extent to which Durant can conduct individual workouts and rehab, he is still making progress.

In any case, Durant will hope to come back stronger than ever for the 2020-21 season.
