Kyrie Irving has been a rather eccentric character throughout his career. The Brooklyn Nets star has a penchant for doing unusual things on and off the court. While this one isn’t unusual in itself, it’s still pretty funny to see happen in an actual NBA game.
During the Nets’ game against the Atlanta Hawks, Kyrie Irving was sitting on the bench eating… a fruit cup. That’s a unique snack for sure, but the story doesn’t end there. As he was eating, Irving suddenly was called up to enter the court, meaning he had to drop the fruit cup and enter the game. (via YES! Network)

Fruit cups are an interesting snack choice, though certainly not a bad one. It might be Irving’s way of recharging, too: the Nets star seemed to indicate on Twitter that he would participate in the Muslim tradition of Ramadan, or fasting. The tradition calls for devotees to fast from dawn to sunset. If Irving was indeed participating, he’d need to take in all the energy he can during the night.
After a long wait, Irving is finally back on the Nets full-time, as new mandates in New York City allowed him to play home games for the team. That bodes well for their chances of making it all the way to the Finals, as they’re an incredibly dangerous team to face. The two-headed monster of Irving and Kevin Durant is not to be trifled with.
Expect a lot more snacking on fruit cups for Irving, as he gears up for what is hopefully a deep playoff run with the Nets.
