Brooklyn Nets guard Kyrie Irving had a 40 point night versus the Dallas Mavericks on Thursday. This is his eighth career 40-point game with the Nets, tying him alongside John Williamson for second-most in franchise history. The leader of this record is retired NBA icon Vince Carter, who has 17 more than Irving and Williamson.

Unfortunately for Irving and the Nets, they dropped the game versus the Mavericks. The Nets have now lost four straight games—all of which had major seeding implications. Luckily for them, they still have a winning record thanks to the performance of James Harden before going down with a hamstring injury.

As expected, Irving has been great for the Nets, averaging 27.0 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 6.3 assists per game. The biggest challenge for them moving forward is to get everyone healthy. Without Harden, the Nets depend too much on isolation plays and don’t have a constant setter. The Nets are 9-11 without Harden in their lineup since the trade.

Despite their four-game losing streak, the Nets are still one of if not the favored team to win the championship this season because of their superstar talent. However, all three superstars have only played a total of seven games together which could be a concern moving forward. Chemistry could be an issue but Irving, Durant, and Harden can still find ways to mesh together and make up for the lack of time spent together.

They will get the chance to bounce back in the next coming days as they face the Denver Nuggets, Chicago Bulls, and San Antonio Spurs.
