Brooklyn Nets guard Spencer Dinwiddie says with Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant on the team, the Nets are now title contenders and not just a “sixth, seventh or eighth seed anymore.”

Durant is expected to miss the entire 2019-20 season recovering from his Achilles tear, so the Nets will likely not compete for a championship next season.

However, Brooklyn should be a top-three team in the East with Irving, Dinwiddie, DeAndre Jordan, Caris LeVert and Jarrett Allen leading the charge.

“Everyone understands how this shifts what we’re doing,” Dinwiddie told Alex Kennedy of Hoops Hype. “We’re not just a sixth, seventh or eighth seed anymore. We aren’t just a young group trying to improve. We’re trying to put our stamp on the NBA as a whole.

“I think anytime you’re able to pair two of the most dynamic people in the entire league together, you have a shot at winning a championship. We have that.”

The Nets made the playoffs last season. After adding three All-Stars in Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving and DeAndre Jordan, Brooklyn has high expectations moving forward.

Experts have pegged the Philadelphia 76ers and Milwaukee Bucks as the two elite teams in the East now that Kawhi Leonard is in the Western Conference on the Los Angeles Clippers. There's nothing stopping the Nets from securing that third spot in the Eastern Conference and maybe giving the Sixers and Bucks a run for their money for that top seed.
