The Brooklyn Nets are not here to complain. But Steve Nash admitted something pretty intriguing about the impact Kyrie Irving‘s absence has had on his squad. Now of course, Brooklyn knows that they have a better roster than most teams in the NBA. But they also know that since assembling what many (accurately) labeled as the league's top super team, things haven't always gone according to plan.

After suffering a 118-95 loss to the Chicago Bulls on Monday, in a game that snapped their five-game win streak, the Nets will look to bounce-back in Orlando. But they are still dealing with the trickle down effect of Irving not being in the fold.

“This team in particular is built around 3 stars,” explained Steve Nash ahead of Wednesday's game. “So to lose one it affects not only the top of the team it also affects the bottom of the team. The players that you recruit, with what’s left of the salary cap are different and to lose that player, there’s a trickle down effect.”

Nash may have a point. If a less top-heavy team like the Knicks, were to lose their third best player, they'd still have a fairly well-rounded unit. Assuming Julius Randle and Derrick Rose were in the lineup, if the Knicks were to somehow lose RJ Barrett, then maybe newly minted scorers Evan Fournier, Kemba Walker, and Alec Burks could pick up the collective lack.

But when Kyrie Irving is out, it means a healthy dose of Bruce Brown and as good as Brown has been, that's a pretty sizable dip. Not to pick on Brown, who has been a terrific player for Brooklyn, but the Nets role players don't make the big bucks like their big three do for a reason.

“That's just the nature of it,” continued the second-year head coach. “We’ve enjoyed trying to put this puzzle together and our players like I said have been incredibly engaged and how they can learn to play the right way and play together in a fashion that suits them.”

The Nets rank dead last in points in the paint coming into tonight's contest. They'll certainly want to improve upon that. Nash and some of his players spoke at length following the recent defeat how the offense stagnated at times. They'll want to push the tempo and drive into the paint to create easy opportunities, as well as pull a defense in to create open 3 point shots in the next one.

Of course, all of their weaknesses like points in the paint and allowing too many offensive rebounds might not matter as much if Kyrie Irving were around to wreak havoc on opposing defenses.
