Contrary to popular belief, it appears that there is now some hope that newly-acquired Brooklyn Nets superstar Kevin Durant is able to return at some point in the upcoming season.

Anthony Puccio of NetsDaily reports that Durant might just be able to recover from the devastating Achilles injury he suffered in Game 5 of the NBA Finals in time to make his debut for his new team during the 2019-20 season.

Since then, NetsDaily has learned that there’s a chance he plays this season. Marks wouldn’t dismiss the idea to reporters, leaving the discussion wide open.

Puccio also points out that given Brooklyn's reputation of always erring on the side of caution when it comes to the injuries of their players, the mere fact that they have not ruled out Durant for the entirety of next season is definitely something worth noting.

The Nets are extremely cautious with injuries and will not put anybody on the court if they know there’s risk. However, some believe the injury might not be as serious as initially thought.

To be clear, the Nets have yet to announce an official timetable for Durant's return, and neither have they explicitly stated their plans to ease the former MVP into game shape in the upcoming season if he indeed becomes available. For all we know, this is just the Brooklyn front office playing mind games.

The fact still remains that Durant is very unlikely to play a big role in the Nets' season next year, even if he is able to make an unlikely return to the court. Should Brooklyn make it to the playoffs, though, this might be an altogether different conversation.
