The Brooklyn Nets are reportedly gaining confidence they'll sign Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant in free agency this summer, according to Brian Windhorst of ESPN.

The Nets have cap space to sign both All-Stars. Durant's former teammate with the Oklahoma City Thunder, Kendrick Perkins, says the Nets are the front runners to land KD.

By all accounts, Irving to Brooklyn is pretty much a done deal already. The six-time All-Star grew up in New Jersey and rooted for the Nets as a kid. Uncle Drew now has to convince his pal Durant to join him in Brooklyn.

Durant is likely going to miss the entire 2019-20 season due to the Achilles injury he suffered in Game 5 of the NBA Finals. The Nets, though, will still offer the two-time Finals MVP a max contract if he wants to join the team.

A core of Irving, Durant, Caris LeVert, Spencer Dinwiddie and Jarrett Allen in Brooklyn would make the Nets a title contender in 2020-21 when Durant is back on the court. Brooklyn general manager Sean Marks and head coach Kenny Atkinson have the franchise trending in the right direction. The only negative about potentially adding Irving and Durant is that D'Angelo Russell wouldn't be back with the club.

However, Irving is a better player than Russell and has championship experience. Durant, meanwhile, will still be a top-five player in the NBA when he comes back.
