The Brooklyn Nets went through a major shakeup right at the deadline after they green-lighted a blockbuster deal that saw James Harden take his talents over to the Sixers in exchange for Ben Simmons. As it turns out, however, that wasn't the only major deal the Nets wanted to do prior to the trade deadline.

ESPN's NBA insider Zach Lowe discussed in the latest episode of The Lowe Post podcast how the Nets nearly traded starting center Nic Claxton to the Toronto Raptors:

“I think one thing that happened at the trade deadline that I heard was that they were very close to a deal with Toronto that would have sent Claxton to Toronto for a first round pick and some protections on it,” said Lowe (h/t RealGM). “I think their intention was to sort of refit the roster by maybe flipping that pick for another wing, another shooter. Robert Covington's name was mentioned. And sort of balance it out. That trade fell apart and Toronto went in another direction.”

Claxton has been a key piece in Brooklyn's rotation so far this season, but as it turns out, he was on the trade block as well. As the above report states, the Nets were in the market for some added depth to their wing with Robert Covington, who the Portland Trail Blazers traded to the Los Angeles Clippers, a potential target for them.

Obviously, this deal did not push through and Claxton is still a Net. Whether or not he will be in the long haul, or if Brooklyn decided to use him as a future trade chip, remains to be seen.
