With the 2020 NFL Draft commencing on Thursday night, a reminder that more than football careers are at stake. There is also the little matter that $5,000 is on the line between draft analysts Todd McShay and Mel Kiper. Back at the NFL Combine in February, McShay bet Kiper $5,000 that quarterback Jordan Love would be selected before Justin Herbert.

The loser of the bet will donate the $5,000 to the V Foundation, which raises money for cancer research and programs. It was started by the late Jim Valvano who died from metastatic cancer.

Herbert and Love both should be first-round selections. The big question for the bet is who will be drafted first. Kiper's latest mock draft has Herbert going to the Los Angeles Chargers at No. 6, and Love going to the Las Vegas Raiders at 19.

McShay's latest mock draft was released in late March, and his board looks a little different. He has Love going sixth overall to the Chargers, and the Jacksonville Jaguars selecting Herbert with the ninth pick.

Mock drafts have been all over the place for this draft because, as usual, there seems to be so much uncertainty. Without pro days to scout and in-person meetings it's been harder to get a feel about where players might go. It's also expected that there will be a number of trades that go down in the first round.

Joe Burrow is a slam dunk to go first overall to the Cincinnati Bengals but after that, there seems to be all sorts of question marks, especially where quarterbacks are concerned. The fireworks could start at the No. 2 pick if the Washington Redskins decide to trade back to get more assets for the rest of their team.

Regardless, The V Foundation sets to be one of the draft's first-round winners.
