An era ends for the Baltimore Ravens after they have decided to move on from John Harbaugh, firing the franchise's long-time head coach following a heartbreaking 26-24 loss on Sunday at the hands of Aaron Rodgers and the Pittsburgh Steelers.
But Harbaugh's story in the NFL should be far from over, as he is expected to get the attention of teams looking to fill their vacancies in the same position. Even teams that have head coaches under contract are rumored to be among those looking to hire the Super Bowl champion coach, according to NFL insider Jordan Schultz.
“The ripple effects of John Harbaugh’s firing cannot be overstated – several clubs with head coaches currently under contract will also have interest,” Schultz wrote in a social media post on X, formerly Twitter.
The 63-year-old Harbaugh coached the Ravens for 18 seasons and steered the franchise to a Super Bowl title in 2012.
Baltimore's loss to the Steelers appears to be the final straw for Harbaugh, as the Ravens had not experienced much success in the playoffs over the last several years. Since winning the Super Bowl, the Ravens had been to the postseason seven times under Harbaugh, but moved past the divisional round just once. That was in the 2023 NFL season, when the Ravens went all the way to the AFC Championship Game only to lose to Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs.
The Ravens had the talent to not just make the playoffs in the 2025 campaign, but win the Super Bowl. But despite being led on the field by superstar running back Lamar Jackson and a future Pro Football Hall of Fame running back in Derrick Henry, all Baltimore managed to come up with in the regular season was an 8-9 record, their worst since they went 8-9 as well in the 2021 season to finish last in the AFC North.
