Kenny Pickett is staying in Pittsburgh as the newest member of the Steelers, who select him with the 20th pick in the 2022 NFL Draft. Pickett is just one of many top quarterback prospects in the 2022 draft class.

The rising star out of the University of Pittsburgh had an outstanding senior year. He led the Panthers as the starting quarterback through an 11-3 winning season.

In 13 games, the quarterback threw 334 completions for 4,319 yards, averaging 332.5 yards each game. He only had seven interceptions his senior year, while picking up 42 passing touchdowns. The young quarterback also recorded 233 rushing yards and five rushing touchdowns of his own.

Pickett ultimately decided to declare for the 2022 NFL Draft, opting out of the 2021 Peach Bowl. Critiques had been relatively harsh on Pickett ahead of the NFL Draft. Many questioned Pickett's ability to play efficiently in the league because of his 8.5-inch hands.

According to Pickett's NFL prospect profile, “he's a fairly toolsy pocket passer with good mobility,” which will greatly benefit the Steelers offense. Pickett is considered a “boom/bust.”

However, as mentioned in his profile, Pickett's success or failure will be largely impacted by how the Steelers handle him. “The top indicator for future success or failure will likely rest in a team's ability to build Pickett's trust, poise and discipline from the pocket.”

If the Steelers can provide a nurturing environment for Pickett to grow, he will flourish as a starting quarterback within the next few years.
