Misdirection is rampant at this time of year in the NFL. With free agency quickly approaching and the draft just right around the corner, executives, coaches, scouts, agents, and players have every incentive to reach their ultimate goals – whatever they may be – by spreading rumors only loosely based in fact.

Case in point: One anonymous scout telling NBC Sports' Dan Patrick he believes that Kyler Murray somehow fudged his official measurements taken at the NFL Combine last week:

Kyler Murray didn't complete testing or compete in throwing drills at the combine, but he was still arguably the biggest story in Indianapolis. He reportedly failed to impress interested teams during the interview process, leading to questions about his style of leadership and mental acuity, but he put more lasting concerns over his diminutive physical profile to bed by measuring a shade over 5-foot-10 and 207 pounds, well above his listed playing weight at Oklahoma.

How Murray is supposed to have “inflated” his height is unclear, but it seems unlikely such conspiratorial talk will prevent him from being one of the first players selected come April 25. The Arizona Cardinals, picking No. 1 overall, are known fans of Murray, and reportedly began shopping incumbent franchise quarterback Josh Rosen earlier this week. Meanwhile, both the Oakland Raiders and Washington Redskins reportedly left the combine hoping to draft Murray in the top 10.

The reigning Heisman Trophy winner put on a weekly show during his first season as a starter, leading the Sooners to the College Football Playoff by throwing for 4,361 yards, 42 touchdowns, and seven interceptions while completing 69.0 percent of his passes, adding 1,001 yards and 12 touchdowns on the ground.
