The news of perennial All-Star forward LeBron James joining the Los Angeles Lakers took the professional sports world by storm on Sunday night that has created an enormous buzz ahead of next season.
However, this move for the Cleveland Cavaliers completely changes the landscape for the franchise with their star player being out of the mix. Chicago Bears second-year quarterback Mitchell Trubisky, who is a longtime Cavs fan, has given his take on the major move, according to Rich Campbell of The Chicago Tribune.
“Yeah, it’s tough. It’s tough,” he said. “The city of Cleveland, the Cavaliers took a hit yesterday. Not much to say. A personal decision on his choice.
There isn't much else that Trubisky could express now that James is set to be a member of the Lakers in the coming days. It marks the second time that the 33-year-old has left the franchise, but this time around there is a strong level of appreciation for what he did for the organization.
In his last tenure with the Cavs, he took the team to four consecutive NBA Finals while helping them win their first NBA title that effective snapped a 52-year championship drought for the city of Cleveland. It was an accomplishment that reached far beyond just the franchise as it helped finally break the hiatus from hoising a championship that the city has had for more than half a century.
Meanwhile, the Lakers now have in place arguably the best player in the league that will lead them back to relevancy that should immediately snap their longest playoff drought in team history. The 33-year-old is still playing the best basketball of his career despite being 15 years in the league that may see him push Los Angeles to contend for an NBA title over the next several seasons.
