The Cincinnati Bengals have announced that talented running back Jeremy Hill has been placed on the injured reserve. In turn, this likely ends the productive player's National Football League season.
This ends a sincerely bizarre campaign by Jeremy Hill.
Formerly a second-round pick in the 2014 NFL Draft, Hill was productive through his first several seasons playing professional football. However, despite starting seven games throughout this specific voyage, he only had 116 rushing yards, averaging an iffy 3.1 yards per carry.
In something worth monitoring since this does likely end his season, Hill becomes a free agent in March. While his production clearly dipped this year, it isn't crazy to think he would still bring value to a number of franchises across the league.
Article Continues BelowHill’s best year came in his rookie season, when he rushed for 1,224 yards on 222 carries, with an average of 5.1 yards per carry.
For whatever it is worth, the entire Cincy rushing attack has been a relative disaster this season. It hasn't only been Hill who has failed to live up to expectations. Rookie running back Joe Mixon, who was drafted with much hoopla due to his off-the-field issues, only has 284 yards on 98 carries. That total rushing number equates to an average of just 2.9 yards.
If we are to put that in some perspective, maybe it isn't the running backs on the Bengals that are the issue. Maybe, just maybe, it is the offensive line and the decisions made by people calling plays on the offensive side of the football.
Someone just insert that Kermit the Frog drinking tea meme right around here.
