In an effort to increase the number of Carolina Panthers fans in their home stadium and limit the number of tickets being sold to opposing teams, Panthers quarterback Cam Newton has bought 50 tickets and plans to give them away to fans who do not usually have the chance to attend any Panthers games due to financial restraints, according to Ari Meirov of Pro Football Focus.

The leadership Newton has shown since rejoining the team that drafted him first overall a decade ago, saw him win an MVP, and lead his team to a Super Bowl is absolutely palpable. In his first two plays back in a Carolina uniform, last week against the Arizona Cardinals, Newton scored two touchdowns, one rushing, and one passing, then immediately rallied his guys on the sideline to tell them this was just the start.

Now, Newton is taking that leadership on the field to the community. As perhaps the most active Panther in the community over the last decade, this is nothing new to Cam. It is just the continuation of the leadership he has consistently shown and it is why every locker room he has ever been in has had his back despite some diva moments on and off the field.

With this latest gesture, Newton is showing he is serious about winning, and the Panthers have the ancillary parts (Christian McCaffrey, D.J Moore, Stephon Gilmore, Brian Burns) to get themselves to the playoffs–if they can get the quarterback situation settled. That is what Newton was brought in to do and he is showing that being a true franchise quarterback is not just being a leader on the field.
