In the last several weeks, there have been several names mentioned around the league as the next to receive the opportunity be a head coach in the NFL.

Among those has been current Oklahoma head coach Lincoln Riley, who has his team in the midst of competing for the national championship in the final four for the second straight year. With that in mind, one of his former players in Cleveland Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield has voiced that he believes Riley is ready to make that leap, according to Austin Knoblauch of NFL.com.

“Lincoln's been ready,” Mayfield said. “The respect level he's had from all of his players. He's ready, but that's his decision.”

Riley's name has remained consistently in the mix for being a possible candidate for the few openings that have become available in the last few weeks. Among those that have received the most traction has been with the Browns, especially with Mayfield being the starting quarterback with the franchise. This could give him the chance to link up with his former player and potentially build on their success that they had together at Oklahoma.

These comments make it clear that Mayfield would welcome his former head coach in Cleveland, which is especially the case with their bond that they cultivated during his time at the university. At that same juncture, Riley has built something special at Oklahoma over the last couple of years with the team being in the national title picture in each of the last two years.

Regardless if it's the Browns that are interested, there will be plenty of other teams to throw their name in the hat this upcoming offseason with other possible openings that could come about. If there is anything to take away from these comments it's that Mayfield believes his former head coach is ready for the next level.
