For the past few seasons, McDaniels' name has been mentioned as an assistant who could get another shot as a head coach in the NFL. Some fans may be skeptical of hiring McDaniels due to his previous failed experience as the head coach of the Denver Broncos.
However, his first head coaching gig came in 2009 and he wasn't given much to work with. While going 11-17 in his short stay in Denver, his quarterbacks in both seasons were Kyle Orton and Tim Tebow.
Just two years after being fired by the Broncos, McDaniels found himself going back to the Patriots as the offensive coordinator. Since he rejoined New England, he's helped the Patriots make five Super Bowls and win three of them.
As for the Browns, they are in need of a coach who can get the best out of Baker Mayfield and the offense. Therefore, McDaniels makes a ton of sense for Cleveland for the foreseeable future.
In addition, McDaniels has had more time to learn under Bill Belichick since his last head coaching job. Provided that, his previous head coaching gig shouldn't hinder someone from hiring him in 2020.
If the Browns aren't willing to hand the keys over to McDaniels, it appears that another team could. Besides Cleveland, the New York Giants and Carolina Panthers will host McDaniels for a visit this week as well.
