Indianapolis Colts wide receiver T.Y. Hilton has apologized for his disparaging comments regarding the offensive line’s play in the team’s 27-0 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars, per ESPN’s Mike Wells.
“First and foremost, I would like to apologize to the team and the O-line,” Hilton said. “It was out of character, frustrated how the game went. At the end of the day, I have their back. I love them to death and I was wrong. I'm always against that and I go out and do it, so 100 percent I messed up. It's on me. I'm sorry for that and I'm leader and those guys look up to me and I stabbed them in the back, so for me I'm sorry about that. I'll approach them individually one on one and just let them know I was a 100 percent dead-ass wrong.”
Hilton criticized the Colts’ O-line after quarterback Jacoby Brissett was sacked 10 times and hit 10 more times by the Jags defense as Indianapolis was shut out for the first time in almost 24 years.
Article Continues BelowIt’s been a frustrating offseason overall for the Colts, who are 2-5 on the year and are second from bottom in the entire AFC.
They’re clearly missing quarterback Andrew Luck, who has yet to suit up this season due to a shoulder injury. However, it’s unlikely even Luck would’ve had more success than Brissett give how poor the Colts’ line has protected their quarterback.
As one of the team’s leaders, Hilton shouldn’t have gone public with his criticism of his teammates. He acknowledged his mistake and has duly apologized. The Colts can now put this episode behind them and look to play better in the coming weeks.
