The Dallas Cowboys aren't exactly having the type of season most expected the storied National Football League franchise to have. Head coach Jason Garrett knows this, but doesn't believe massive amounts of tinkering will be had between now and the rest of the voyage.
“Certainly we’re always looking at ourselves and things that we can do better, but our convictions as a coaching staff, or as a football team, really won’t change,” Garrett said, via Drew Davison of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.
“You’re looking for different ways to implement things. You self-scout. You do a lot of different things week by week to give your team the best chance possible. But the core convictions about how you win ball games? They remain intact.”
Of course, this isn't as worthless a set of quotes as they may seem to be. At the same time, Jason Garrett isn't wrong in what he says. It would be silly for him, or any other member of this staff for that matter, to abandon all convictions just because the season hasn't gone as planned.
When you factor the massive amounts of injuries the Cowboys have suffered, with the fact that their quarterback is only in his second season, it isn't as shocking as it seems that Dallas happens to be struggling this season. If we are able to remove last season's context from the discussion, which removes the idea of linear progression, this team is probably exactly where it should be at this point.
I am sure that makes zero people happy, but whatever.
