Kansas City Chiefs general manager Brett Veach earned a new title, but it has nothing to do with the Super Bowl champion's front-office responsibilities.
“Brett Veach Way” was added to a two-block part of North Birch Street in hometown Mount Carmel Township, Pennsylvania.
Per in Adam Teicher in ESPN on the Chiefs GM:
“People say there's nothing to do in a rundown coal mining town of 5,000 people, but all we needed to be happy was football and family,” said Veach. “To have my name attached to the street where my love for football first started is really an honor I can't put into words.
“I love Mount Carmel and am thankful to have been raised there.”
Veach, 40, has had an accomplished tenure with the Chiefs in just three years on the job. Formerly enmeshed in the Philadelphia Eagles' organization, Veach came over to Kansas City in 2013 as a player personnel executive, later earning the role of director of player personnel. Then, Veach was promoted to the team's GM position in 2017.
That year also marked the 2017 NFL Draft, which saw Veach and the Chiefs pick for gold and glory with at No. 10: Texas Tech quarterback Patrick Mahomes.
Article Continues BelowMahomes, by now, is a star gunslinger and best in the NFL—a regular season MVP and Super Bowl MVP in February earlier this year when he led the Chiefs over the San Francisco 49ers in what would be Kansas City's first title-game appearance (and victory) in 50 years.
Veach has made his hometown proud by reaching the mountaintop with the Chiefs, it was only fair for the Pennsylvania township to give back and dedicate part of a street to the Kansas City executive.
