Kirk Cousins has been one of the most criticized players in the NFL so far this season. After getting off to a rough start for the Minnesota Vikings, the team's franchise quarterback has finally been turning things around.
Against the Philadelphia Eagles in a huge Week 6 matchup between two NFC teams looking to make a run at a playoff spot, Cousins came through for his team. His wide receivers have seemingly thrown shade at him in the media, but that hasn't fazed him. The fans have crucified him early on this year, but that hasn't changed his mindset.
Instead, Cousins went out against the Eagles and completed 22 of his 29 pass attempts for 333 yards, four touchdowns, and one interception.
Adam Thielen had a big breakout game last week against the New York Giants. Cousins was making a point to get him involved early and often and it worked. This week, it was Stefon Diggs who the quarterback wanted to make sure felt comfortable and it is clear that he is back to being a focal point of the offense.
Diggs ended up catching seven passes for 167 yards and three touchdowns on the afternoon. He also carried the football two times for 18 yards.
Article Continues BelowMinnesota is going to be a team to watch moving forward. If their offense can continue playing the way they have the last couple of weeks, they are going to be just fine. However, the Vikings have faced the Giants and Eagles in those two games, which are both relatively bad defenses.
Cousins has heard his name dragged through the mud and some have even gone so far as to say that he might not be back next season. Many players would let those comments get to their head, but not Cousins. He is instead focusing on improving his game and getting back to being the legitimate franchise quarterback that the Vikings need him to be.
Today's performance was exactly what Cousins and the Minnesota offense needed to see. The pressure is now off of them after back-to-back great performances and Cousins is officially back.
Next up for the Vikings will be a tough matchup on the road against the Detroit Lions. That will be another test for Cousins and the offense, but they have shown enough to prove that they are back on track.
