Although the New York Jets won't be making the playoffs this year, the team received some good news on Monday. After sitting a few games due to injury, it sounds like rookie quarterback Zach Wilson will be making his return soon. Well, sort of.

According to Ian Rapoport, “Zach Wilson is expected to return to practice this week, but don't be surprised if Mike White gets another start as Wilson works back to 100%.” This can't be all that shocking based on how well Mike White has played recently.

Sitting on the bench and continuing to learn behind Mike White might be the best thing for Zach Wilson right now. The Jets don't want to rush Wilson back under center too quickly, as it's more important for him to learn than it is to win games. Patience is key here, and New York must take their time developing Zach Wilson.

Mike White came out of nowhere with a strong performance against the Cincinnati Bengals. He looked to do the same the following week against the Indianapolis Colts, but an early injury knocked him out of the game. For Wilson, seeing someone else with more experience play well in the Jets' scheme has to be liberating. He got to witness a quarterback succeed in the Jets system and has a taste of that himself.

This is great news for this franchise, as Wilson will be able to get back in action. However, it's incredibly smart of the Jets to play Mike White for now, as Zach Wilson clearly needs some time to develop behind a veteran. Look for New York to take their time with their young quarterback for the rest of this season. This is the perfect time for Robert Saleh and the coaching staff to develop Zach Wilson.
