The Green Bay Packers are one of the few teams in the NFL that usually makes it to the playoffs on an annual basis. Perennial Pro Bowler Aaron Rodgers is normally one of the star attractions in the postseason with Green Bay always having a shot to go the distance. The 2017 campaign, however, was different.
With Rodgers suffering a collarbone injury which required surgery midway through the season, the Packers' hopes for a playoff appearance became slim to none. Green Bay continued to fight without their leader under center and Brett Hundley trying to fill the void, but it was enough to secure a playoff berth. Rodgers, now healthy and focused on next season, tells fans of the iconic franchise not to get used to not seeing their team in the postseason, via Mike Spofford of Packers.com.
“I would say to Packer Nation don’t get used to not watching your team in January, because it’s not going to be like that after this little aberration,” he said. “I think what it’s going to take is us to be more consistent in all the phases.”
It's a safe bet that as long as Rodgers is healthy the Packers have a chance to be playoff bound and possibly win a Super Bowl in any given season. Next season will likely be no different, especially with the superstar quarterback happy to have Joe Philbin back as the team's offensive coordinator.
Article Continues BelowRodgers praised the return of Philbin along with emphasizing a need for the team to be better defensively moving forward, via Spofford.
“We have to play championship defense. You look at the final four, all were up at the top in defensive categories. We have to get back to playing that kind of defense. Offensively, we have to get back to what we were doing in ’11. Thankfully the guy who was offensive coordinator in ’11 is back, Joe Philbin.”
Although there's no telling how it will all come together for the Packers next season, Rodgers seems determined to get this team back on track after missing the postseason. Another MVP-caliber year could be on the horizon for Rodgers if he's as locked in and as focused as he appears to be.
