Following the New England Patriots loss in Super Bowl LII to the Philadelphia Eagles, one of the biggest questions surrounding the team has been head coach Bill Belichick's decision keep cornerback Malcolm Butler off the field.
There have been various reports that have surfaced since then that have given some possible reasons for Belichick's choice due to him Butler missing curfew along with having a rough week of practice. However, the 27-year-old has finally weighed in on the situation via social media stating that none of what's being reporting is factual.

Butler made it quite clear that anything reported up to this point about his situation isn't what happened to him. This only further clouds what led to Belichick essentially keeping him out of the game on a decision that was made a few hours before kickoff. It was something that caught the entire team off guard including his teammate Eric Rowe, who took over his spot in the starting lineup.
At the same time, this does bring clarity to Butler's future in New England as it was made abundantly clear from his statement that his time has come to a close. That said, Butler is set to become a free agent this upcoming offseason where he will likely be one of the most sought out players on the open market. He spent his first four years with the Patriots where he was a key cog to the team defensively that saw him help the team earn a pair of Super Bowl wins, including making the game-sealing interception in Super Bowl XLIX against the Seattle Seahawks.
Butler's absence from Super Bowl on Sunday afternoon made a noticeable impact defensively where they gave up 538 total offensive yards to the Eagles. This only brought further attention to the situation that could have had a significant impact on the outcome of the game. That said, Butler's response could lead to their finally being clarity as what transpired on Sunday afternoon.
