The New England Patriots have dealt with their fair share headlines this NFL offseason. Now it appears their two biggest stars are in no rush to get back to practice following mandatory minicamp.

The Patriots are finally wrapping up organized team activities. According to NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport, both quarterback Tom Brady and tight end Rob Gronkowski will not be in attendance for its conclusion:

After taking part in mandatory minicamp last week, Patriots Tom Brady and Rob Gronkowski are not slated to be part of the final few OTAs (one of which is a field trip) this week, I’m told. See ‘em in July.

Upon first glance, it is easy to assume this is just the latest in the saga between the New England front office and its players. However, it is not much to look into given the events the have transpired lately.

Gronkowski is reportedly in the midst of restructuring his contract with the Patriots. That said, there is little reason for him to return for a couple of meaningless practices while things get hashed out.

Meanwhile, there are a number of reasons why Brady opted to bow out of the final phase of OTA's. He has cited personal reasons in the past in regards to spending time with his family which likely coincides with his own unique training methods. At this point in Brady's career, all he really has to do is make sure he is good to go by the start of the 2018 NFL season. For now, it is safe to expect the two to make their return when training camp rolls around.
