The Pittsburgh Steelers saw their promising 2017 season come to a disappointing end in the divisional round of the playoffs in a 45-42 loss at home against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Since then, head coach Mike Tomlin has taken on much criticism for his handling of the team in the playoffs after a 13-3 finish to the regular season. However, this isn't something that quarterback Ben Roethlisberger believes that Tomlin should be taking the blame for the Steelers' postseason shortcoming, according to Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.

“I [don't] necessarily agree with that,” Roethlisberger said. “I think he knows how to coach us and knows how to coach each individual guy and each position, so I don't believe in that.”

Heading into the playoffs, the Steelers were seen as one of the heavy favorites to win the Super Bowl. There was no reason to believe otherwise after finishing tied for the best record in the league behind their dynamic offense. Pittsburgh was also back full strength with the return of All-Pro wide receiver Antonio Brown for the divisional round game against the Jaguars.

It just simply saw them get off to a lackluster start to the contest falling behind 28-7 in the first half, which eventually became an insurmountable uphill battle for the rest of the game. It required a huge performance from Roethlisberger throwing for 469 yards with five touchdowns to even get the Steelers back into the game.

Although Pittsburgh blew another huge opportunity to get to the Super Bowl, Tomlin has certainly helped lead the franchise to much success under his watch. He holds an impressive 116-60 record in the regular season while leading the team to six AFC North division titles, a .500 or better record in each campaign, a Super Bowl win, and an 8-7 mark in the postseason.Pittsburgh has remained relevant with him being at the helm as one of the best teams in the league over much of that span.

Simply put, Tomlin will always get much of the blame for any of the team's shortcoming regardless if they are warranted or not.
