Brown is on his way to the hospital for evaluation, according to the team.

Brown suffered what is being called a calf bruise, a league source told ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Prior to the injury, he had become the first player in league history with five straight seasons with at least 100 receptions, snapping the tie with Hall of Famer Marvin Harrison.

The loss of Brown for an extended period of time would a major blow to the Steelers' offense as he's one of their primary weapons and one of the best players in the league. He is the midst of another highly productive campaign that has drawn some MVP consideration.

His absence will push a greater role within in the passing game for All-Pro running back Le'Veon Bell while also putting more importance on wide receivers JuJu Smith-Schuster and Martavis Bryant. There could be a more heavy reliance on the running game with Bell getting a large dosage of carries.
