The Houston Texans had plenty of options to help fill the void left in the wake of Deshaun Watson tearing his ACL. If you had TJ Yates as a player who would help do just that, you win a prize.

According to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, the Texans are signing TJ Yates in the wake of the season-ending knee injury suffered in practice yesterday by Deshaun Watson.

This will obviously be met with a rather substantial amount of backlash. The team designed its offense around Watson and none of the gunslingers the Texans are bringing in fit his style of play. There happens to be a free agent who would slide right in nicely, but for whatever reason, that isn't happening.

Oh. Never mind. That's right. That reason is owner Bob McNair.

This is actually Yates' third stint with the team, as he was also with them in 2015 when they cut Ryan Mallett, but he suffered a torn ACL during that period of time.

For those unaware of where he has been as of late, Yate also had stints with the Falcons and Dolphins, and was most recently with the Bills. He’s played in 18 games, and has a career passer rating of 72.8. To put it more bluntly: There's a reason TJ Yates isn't exactly a household name.

Not that anyone is expecting him to do anything other than add depth to the position, but it is funny how Houston now has three quarterbacks on its roster that no other NFL teams would actually want — with the exception of Tom Savage, who would probably serve as a solid backup (as he was doing for Houston).
