If you're a fan of either the Boston Bruins and the Washington Capitals and feels as though every Stanley Cup Playoffs game between these two teams has always gone down the wire, it's simply because that's been a trend for years now.
According to the Twitter account of the NHL Public Relations, that streak is now up to 11 following the Bruins' 3-2 overtime road win over Washington in Game 2 Monday night.
Each of the last 11 playoff contests between the @NHLBruins & @Capitals have been decided by one goal, extending the longest run by a set of franchises in NHL history. Overtime was needed in 4 of their last 5 #StanleyCup Playoffs matchups.#NHLStats: https://t.co/MTPF8atV9b pic.twitter.com/PfLdkQWj3A

The contest was close from start to finish. Jake DeBrusk put the Bruins on the board first in the first period but T.J. Oshie answered right back for the Capitals to tie it up 1-1. Both teams traded goals until overtime was needed to settle the game. In the OT, it only took Brad Marchand 39 seconds to find the back of the net to give Boston the win, a crucial one, as they head back to TD Garden for Game 3 with the series tied 1-1.
You have to go all the way back to the first round of the 2012 Stanley Cup Playoffs to check out where this streak all started. In that series, Washington and Boston fought each other in a phone booth, with all seven games being decided by a goal and the Caps winning the series with a 2-1 victory at TD Garden.
Game 3 of the current Bruins-Capitals series scheduled for this Wednesday at 6:30 PM ET.
