Philadelphia Flyers captain Claude Giroux is more than likely headed to the Florida Panthers. Rumors and reports of the trade are becoming more frequent, and his emotional 1,000th game did everything but sign the deal.

Flyers writer Anthony SanFilippo tweeted the news following the milestone game Thursday night.

Although the deal has not been finalized, all signs point to Giroux joining the Panthers. SanFilippo noted that the captain is not joining his teammates on their road trip to take on the Ottawa Senators Friday night.

While it's bittersweet news for the organization, the Flyers were able to send him out with a memorable 5-4 win over the Nashville Predators. Also in the Thursday night win, Giroux was honored with a special ceremony recalling the most iconic moments of his career with the team and multiple standing ovations from Flyers fans.

The Flyers are struggling this season, and there is no clear path for the team to make the playoffs, let alone a path to the championship. Meanwhile, the Panthers are quite the opposite. Florida has a regular season record of 41-14-6 and is the top team in the Atlantic Division. At 34-years-old, Giroux isn't getting any younger. If he is going to win the Stanley Cup, it needs to happen soon.

Expect the blockbuster trade between the Panthers and the Flyers to take place anytime before the 2022 NHL trade deadline on Monday, March 21.
