The Pittsburgh Penguins are gearing up for Game 2 after the impossibly long triple-OT thriller against the New York Rangers. As if the exhaustion of playing on the road just two days after the 3OT win wasn't enough, the Penguins have now been handed a major blow at goalie. According to Frank Seravalli, Casey DeSmith is unlikely to play on Thursday after sustaining a groin injury, meaning it'll be Louis Domingue in the cage for the Pens in Game 2.

The expectation is that DeSmith will be backed up by Alex D'Orio, who has never played an NHL game in his career. D'Orio was recalled from the AHL's Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins on May 4 to serve as an emergency backup in the event that DeSmith would be unavailable.

DeSmith sustained the groin injury in Game 1 during overtime. He played a total of 89 minutes in the game before the injury forced him to the sideline. Domingue was called upon to replace him and helped Pittsburgh seal the win over the Rangers in the early part of the third overtime period.

Domingue is now expected to be in net for the Penguins in Game 2 after Mike Sullivan described the 30-year-old as being day-to-day. Domingue, 29, played in just two games for the Penguins this year but will now be called upon to make what would be the third playoff appearance of his career.

With Tristan Jarry still nursing a fractured foot that has had him sidelined since mid-April. The Penguins are hoping the 27-year-old starter will be able to return at some point in Round 1, but unfortunately, with DeSmith also ailing, Jarry is still rehabbing the injured foot, meaning it'll be Domingue in the cage for Game 2.
