Overworked goalies appear to be dropping like flies these days. Earlier Thursday, news broke that the Toronto Maple Leafs will be without their star goaltender, Jack Campbell, for at least a couple of weeks. Now, it's the Las Vegas Golden Knights who are dealing with a similar issue.

The Golden Knights have reportedly decided to send starting goalie Robin Lehner back home during the team's road trip to have some tests done on a lower body injury.

Lehner had previously been dealing with an upper body injury that kept him sidelined for five games. Shortly after his return, he is now looking like he will miss more time. It comes at a bad time for the Golden Knights. They are in the midst of a tight playoff race in the Pacific Division.

Las Vegas currently holds the third spot in the division with 68 points. They are only three points behind the Los Angeles Kings, but also only two points ahead of the Edmonton Oilers. The hard-charging Vancouver Canucks and Anaheim Ducks are only a few points back as well.

Only the top three teams from the division automatically qualify for the playoffs. So, it is crucial for the Golden Knights to hold onto their positioning.

Lehner last played Tuesday night, allowing two goals in a 2-1 loss to the Philadelphia Flyers. This season, the Golden Knights net minder has appeared in 38 games, posting a 21-15 record, with a 2.77 goals against average and a .909 save percentage. He will miss the chance to beat his former team, the Buffalo Sabres.

Thursday night, Las Vegas visits Buffalo. It is also Jack Eichel's long-awaited return to his former team, which should make for an interesting game.
