Portland Trail Blazers forward Carmelo Anthony believes his jersey should be retired by the Denver Nuggets, but the signature No. 15 he wore for the better part of eight seasons is now being worn by Nikola Jokic.

Following a 15-point loss to the Nuggets on Thursday, Melo suggested the Pepsi Center would be the place to see his jersey rise to the rafters.

“This is where it should be retired, to be honest with you,” said Anthony after dropping 20 points, nine rebounds, two steals, and two blocks in the Portland Trail Blazers 114-99 loss. “Just my opinion, man.

Melo said that was only his opinion and acknowledged Jokic is wearing No. 15 now and that “we'll see” what ends up happening over time.

Jokic is in line to play just as long, if not longer than Anthony after locking up a five-year, $147.7 million that could keep him in The Miles High City until 2023.

Barring an unprecedented slide in his play, the Nuggets are poised to keep Jokic until he's 27 and they will have some decisions to make once the core of Jamal Murray and Jokic are bound for beefier contracts.

Melo's stint with the Nuggets brought the organization to the playoffs consistently, and while they fared short of an NBA Finals stint, his imprint on the Pepsi Center is undeniable.

The fact alone that he wore No. 15 and that same jersey number is being worn by the team's best player makes it a difficult decision not only now, but later on as well.
