Denver Nuggets forward Michael Porter Jr. struggled on Tuesday against the Boston Celtics, going 0-of-8 from the field as Denver lost, 112-99. After the game, point guard Jamal Murray gave MPJ some sage advice, shooter to shooter.

Indeed, that has been the most common advice that many gun-slinging, shoot-first players (like Jamal Murray) give to others. Sure enough, it often does work out in the end as their shooting touch returns.

In Michael Porter Jr.’s case, he has been one of many players impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, as he missed nearly three weeks in January due to having the virus. Before his absence, he snapped for a 30-point eruption for the Nuggets against the Sacramento Kings on only 18 shooting possessions, so clearly he has the ability.

Of course, missing all that time and being sidelined with an injury that is proven to impact the respiratory system is not a great combination for the 22-year-old wing.

Before failing to register a single point in the team’s loss to the Celtics, Porter had a 3-of-11 showing against the Los Angeles Lakers in a game the Nuggets won convincingly.

Though he had some big scoring games immediately upon returning to action in late January, including another 30-burger against the Mavericks, Porter has looked out of sorts since the calendar turned over to February.

The Nuggets will need Porter at his best as the season progresses, especially in the playoffs, but there’s plenty of time for the second-year wing to get right.
